Public Works

The Public Works Department has multi-functions on tasks and activities to provide various essential services for the city, including responsible for the operations and maintenance of the City's parks, streets, facilities, water and waste-water treatment and garbage collection.

The Public Works Administration Department provides all managerial and support functions for streets and drainage, facilities and vehicle maintenance, parks, capital improvement projects, and contract management for water and sewer and solid waste.  There are five departments under the Public Work Department:

 

  • The Water and Sewer Department  is outsourced through a private contractor.  US Water Corp. The services include; operation, maintenance, management, and analysis activities to operate the water treatment plant, and wastewater treatment plant, lift stations, fire hydrants, water distribution systems and wastewater collection system.

 

  • The Sanitation Department is outsourced through a private contractor.  Advanced Disposal is responsible for residential and commercial waste collection, recycling collection and yard waste collection.  White goods and Bulk goods collection is provided also.

 

  • The Parks and Recreation Department maintains 6 parks, including restrooms; trims and mows 24 acres; repairs fencing and playground equipment and maintains tennis and basketball courts.  Responsibilities also include maintenance of boat ramps and docks.

   

  • The Facility and Vehicle Maintenance Division has the responsibility of maintain all city facilities, including general repairs and upkeep of city property.  Cemetery care is provided including grounds maintenance.  Vehicle maintenance is responsible for maintaining all city vehicles and equipment.

   

  • The Street Department is responsible for mowing 22 miles of right of way along city streets and large tracts of City owned property, and the maintenance of streets, signs, culverts, sidewalks and 14 miles of drainage ditches.
